What's the best way to post pictures in a thread?
« on: August 20, 2009, 06:43:20 AM »

Your best bet for posting pictures in a thread is to put them on the NFSPMotorsports server, that way they are always here as long as the forum is here so you don't get dead picture links. Another advantage is keeping the size of the pictures under control so that you don't accidentally create threads that are really slow to load.

There are two main ways posting pictures using the NFSPMotorsports server. The next two posts will demonstrate each method.

Method 1: Using the Attachment Function

You can quickly post a picture as an attachment by clicking Additional Options under the text box where you type your message (not available in quick reply)
Then click the browse button, and find your file. You can attach up to 8 files per post. The files you attach will show up as tidy thumbnails at the bottom of your post. Clicking them brings up the full-size image, clicking again returns it to a thumbnail.

Example of an attachment:

Method 2: Hot-linking from the Gallery

This method is more entailed, but gives you more control over how you display the pictures within the post.
First upload the pictures you want to use to a user album in the gallery.
Next go to the picture(s) you want to use and note the id number under BBC Embed Code (in this example it is 60)

There are three ways to hot-link them into your post, you can either

a) use this code
Code: [Select]
to embed the picture in a nice, quick-to-load, preview size that looks like this:

or

b) use this code
Code: [Select]
to embed the picture full size like so:

or

c) use the BBC Embed Code from the album
Code: [Select]
[ smg id=60 ] to post it in a zoomable thumbnail format similar to an attachment. That will look like this:

Notice whichever way you use, you can embed the picture anywhere in your post instead of having it at the bottom like an attachment.

Sorry it's a little technical. If you want to mess around with posting pictures so you can get a feel for how it works, you can post anywhere on this board: http://www.nfspmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?board=13.0 It's just a test board, so it doesn't matter if you mess up or make a bunch of posts that make no sense, that's what it's there for.

The best way to post pictures is with a camera.

^He's right. Really the only way to take and post pics with the same device is to use a smartphone.

......did I mention my phone has an excellent camera and the picasa app makes posting pics super easy? :p
